Back to school Shoe Guide

School is just around the corner and that means school activities, extra curricular activities, sports, PE, walks to school etc.

Here are a few pointers to picking out the proper shoes

The shoe should match the activity-

  1. Running shoes should have a firm sole, good cushion, and breathable
  2. Sandals should go past the toes to prevent stubbing on door, wall, etc and should have stiff sole and good arch support
  3. Dress shoes or any clsed toed shoe should have one-two finger space in the toes to allow for mild swelling in the heat and slipping when feet get a little sweaty
  4. Lighter colors and lighter matieral to stay cooler and prevents swelling and sweating
  5. Foot shape, ie flat foot high arch foot, should have a sole or insert that supports and accommodates the foot type.  These can be a pronation or supination shoe, neutral shoe, or a corrective insert in a normal none posted shoe
  6. Shoes (athletic) usually last 6 months or 600-1000 miles whichever comes first.  This will prevent foot pain

The bottom line shoes should be confortable, fit snug but not too tight, and have comfort along with style to prevent ingrown nails, arch pain, heel pain, athletes foot, and other foot problems that can bother many people here in sunny Florida
